Fly Ash
Fly Ash is a byproduct which is produced during the combustion of coal in coal-fired power plants.
Characteristics
Silica, alumina and iron oxide are the main components of Fly Ash along with small quantities of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide. Its texture is finer than cement and its color ranges from off-white to grey, depending on its composition and source.
Fly Ash is chemically inert and does not react with other materials unless activated.
Applications
It is used in the production of concrete, cement and mortar. In mine reclamation projects, Fly Ash is used to restore disturbed landscapes.
