OPC Clinker

OPC Clinker

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) Clinker is produced by heating a mixture of Limestone, Clay and Iron Ore to a temperature of approximately 1,450°C in a cement kiln. This Clinker is a key component in the production of Ordinary Portland Cement which is the most common type of cement used by the construction industry around the world.

Characteristics

OPC Clinker is produced by heating calcium silicates to temperatures of approximately 1,450C. It has good binding properties and is highly reactive when mixed in water, undergoing a process called hydration.  Calcium silicate hydrates are formed during the hydration process and are responsible for giving the cement its strength and binding properties.

Applications

OPC Clinker is one of the main ingredients in concrete which is used in the construction of buildings, bridges, roads and highways, dams and other structures. It is also used in the production of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures. OPC-based mortar is used for bonding bricks, stones and other masonry units while OPC-based plaster is applied to ceilings and interior and exterior walls to create a smooth finish. Precast concrete products and stucco to exterior of buildings are some of the other uses of OPC Clinker.
